Purchased in June This small sun-dried Natural processed (Grade 1) coffee comes from Yirgacheffe we have previously purchased and visited this small farms holder and are proud to represent this famous region The Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives Union (YCFCU), currently represents over 43,794 farmers belonging to more than 300,000 families, and was established in June 2002. Its currently 23 member cooperatives are all located in Gedeo, southern Ethiopia.Coffee being the most important agricultural commodity in the world, is cultivated by more than 80 countries, including Ethiopia, and this is exported in the raw, roasted or soluble form, to more than 165 countries across the continent. The Agricultural based Ethiopian economy highly depends on Arabica coffee as it contributes to more than 60% of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The fact that the livelihood of more than 15 million people of the country is coffee dependant simply means that their daily survival is on the existence of Coffee. Therefore, the income generated from coffee by the Yirgacheffe coffee farmers directly affects their livelihoods and daily survival.
