This Guatemala microlot is named after a local natural wonder. El Boquerón, here you will find is a narrow canyon cut through by the Rio Dulce. Its limestone walls are covered in beautiful hanging moss, and the canyon is home to blue morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and howler monkeys. Arturo Domingo Gomez was born and raised on Hacienda Joya Grande, where his father worked the farm. When his father passed away, Don Domingo inherited a portion of the land and, with a lot of effort, planted coffee across the entirety of it. Today, coffee is his main economic activity, and it enables him to support his wife and eight children.Guatemala produces many different types of the world’s finest and most distinctive coffees. This is a Natural Process which leads to the intense fruit like flavours as its dried in its skin after picking. We proudly purchased this coffee becuase it stood out on the cupping table, and was the roasters pick of the week. The country has many unique coffee producing regions that has gained a positive and well known reputation in the industry. Coffee is Guatemala’s number one export contributing to the country’s growing economic status.La Democracia is located in Huehuetenango, one of Guatemala’s main coffee regions.Huehuetenango is one of Guatemala’s three non-volcanic regions, as well as its highest and driest under cultivation, making it one of the best for coffee production.Currents of hot air sweep up from the Plains of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca, Mexico, and mix here with the cool air descending from the Cuchumatanes Mountains, creating a microclimate that’s protected from frost and allowing coffee to be cultivated at up to 2,000 meters
