Barbacan Rosso Di Valtellina

$70.00

Designation: Valtellina Rosso DOC
Grape Types: Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) 100%
Region: Lombardy (Italy)
Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks. Without filtrations
Aging: 8 months in steel tanks and in barriques

Their Nebbiolo is fragrant and alive. Deep body of blackcurrants and spice. Might be somewhat familiar to South Australian Shiraz Drinkers. They only pick the most ripe fruit before quickly transferring it to barrel before pressing.

For a Coffee and Wine Pairing the blackcurrants and spice make Kenyan coffees the obvious choice. However because of its huge nose and deeper fruits, some Lactic Colombians would also be an excellent pairing

Description

Barbacan are Natural winemakers based in the Alps (I have a strong urge to call them the Italian Alps, but these are the original ones). Angelo Luca and Matteo curate 6 Hectares of ancient Vines using the philosophy of many of the Italian Natural Wine producers. That one cannot control Nature, but rather find a harmony with it.

They farm in the slopes of Valtellina and have wines of both Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) as well as Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) which are the highest degrees of wine quality that Italy can offer.
