2012 is well underway and it is going to be a very exciting year for all involved in Cartel. ETHIOPIA HERE WE COME
Imagine going to the birthplace of coffee to be immersed in coffee tradition, speak with the best farmers in the world and experience wonders too hard to describe. Well, we have been harbouring this dream for quite a while now. In February this dream shall become a reality as Cartel sets off to the other side of the world in search of coffee utopia. Keep yourself posted to Cartel news for all the pics, vids and details of this remarkable journey (or, if things go a little awry, this hilarious journey).
COFFEE SAVES THE DAY
As lovers of coffee I am sure we have all possibly had our levels of consumption questioned by loved ones, co-workers, friends and foes. The good news is we now have an increasing database of medical evidence to support the amount of coffee we drink. As recent as September 20th 2011, test results have revealed that 2 cups of coffee a day can markedly reduce the risk of stroke whilst earlier this year tests proved the reduction of prostate cancer and also breast cancer through 2-3 cups of coffee per day. I’m not that good at math, but my calculations state that that allows both males and females the chance to safely drink 5 (2 3) cups of coffee per day?! and for the more portly looking males 8 (2 3 3) cups can be consumed without question. Next time your boss questions the need for a mid morning run to Cartel, direct them to one of these articles;

CARTEL AT THE COFFEE SEMINAR MELBOURNE MAY24th
In the pursuit of coffee excellence, Cartel attended the Chemistry of Coffee seminar at William Angliss Institute on May 24th 2011. This course was 'mind blowing' to say the least. It has really altered the way we want to do things at The Cartel and the coffee experience we want to bring to you the customer. So what is Coffee Chemistry?

CARTEL COFFEE ROASTERS TO PLAN MOON LANDING !
The Cartel is looking for investors to help us launch our coffee origins on the moon or planet mars (in actual fact any other planet in the universe, we're not that picky!). We have been in contact with NASA and they are currently training their first class of Baristonauts (Barista Astronaut) with things progressing well. If you thought latte art was tough enough to begin with, imagine trying to pour a triple rosetta in zero gravity!
At Cartel we like to think large! We envisage a La Marzocco on the moon, a Mazzer grinder on Mars and a Speedster on Saturn. We welcome any investors to help us achieve our goals. Please contact us today. Cartel Mission Mars needs you!

RED AFRICAN DRINKING CHOCOLATE BY GROUNDED PLEASURES
The African Red is one of the most pure and sumptuous chocolate experiences you can find. It is sourced from the best cocoa growing regions of West Africa. It exhibits all the hallmarks of African grown Forastero cocoa beans and a hint of Trinitario cocoa beans, with delightful high fruity notes.
These beans have been processed with the utmost care from tree to cup. African Red is made using most of the cocoa bean, thus retaining most of the cocoa liquor which is usually reserved for hard chocolates.
The quality cocoa beans together with the minimum of processing, means it has very high levels of antioxidants and flavonoids. These are the great 'health giving' properties of fine chocolate.

THE CARTEL CREW VISITS TEA & COFFEE WORLD CUP SINGAPORE
The world’s favorite tea & coffee exhibition and symposium, Tea & Coffee World Cup Asia, took place from March 21 - 23, 2011 at Singapore's Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Center. The Cartel Crew were there to get the scoop (excuse the pun!)
Tea & Coffee World Cup Asia was a three-day comprehensive marketplace for tea and coffee products and ideas. Hundreds of exhibitors of every type filled the centre. Service, supply, machinery and equipment, roasters, packers, tea & coffee traders – you name it, it was represented. Add to the mix; restaurant, hotel and coffee bar chains, retail outlets and department stores from more than 100 countries!
It was a crazy and hectic week, filled with some unbelievable coffee and tea adventures. Truly one we will never forget. More importantly, it was a week that has helped ensure that Cartel Coffee Roasters remain up to date & at the leading edge of specialty coffee in Australia and abroad. Pictures | Singaporecoffee |
2011 WORLD COFFEE PRICE INCREASE
As of February 2011 we unfortunately have increased the prices for our coffee (of course as minimal as possible). We regret the need to do this but over the last 12 months we have been absorbing the rising costs of coffee as a commodity. We can no longer continue to do this. As a valued customer we hope you will understand this change. Of course, we will continue to find and source the best specialty coffee beans from around the world, expertly roasting and dispatching the coffee fresh to your door.

COFFEE INFUSED BEER
Recently we had the pleasure of helping Dan Cunningham of Beacon Brewing on some interesting beer infused with a lightly roasted Ethiopian Limu. The offering was a 3.9% medium bodied beer with a rich coffee flavor, a hint of chocolate and bacon and the smooth mouth feel that comes with brewing with oats. Plus you get a kick of caffeine and alcohol. The best of both world’s, some might say!
